*Tax deductibility of counsel fees in fee shifting cases.
*Declaring settlement monies as W-2 income vs. 1099 income.
*Taxability of damages awards for specific personal injuries vs. general pain and suffering.
*Taxability of back pay, front pay, and punitive damages.
* Propriety of grossing up a plaintiff’s economic damages award for excess taxes on the lump sum received in a single year.
*Federal tax reforms dealing with employment damages and counsel fees: where are we and where are we going?
*IRS Opinions dealing with the taxability of employment damages and counsel fees.
*Audience Q&A.

Cost: $25 (dinner included). Please bring a check for $25 per person. NELA-NJ members who are pre-paid need not bring a check.

CLE Credits Available: This program is pending approval by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 1.5 hours of total CLE credits towards general CLE credits, certification in civil trial law, criminal trial law, workers compensation law and/or matrimonial law, and zero credits towards ethics/professionalism.

Discounts and Scholarships for Financial Hardship: NELA-NJ members may apply for a discount or scholarship to attend this program based on financial hardship. Under that policy, any NELA-NJ member who has a genuine financial hardship may apply in writing not later than two working days prior to the program, explaining the basis of his/her hardship, and if approved, can receive a discount or scholarship, depending on the circumstances.
